Italy Vacations

Italy appeals to the heart and soul of every traveler, whether young or old, traveling alone or with a group, on a budget or seeking luxury.  The country of Italy has everything you're looking for:  museums and historic sights, shopping, food and wine, city and country, beaches and coast lines.

Let Carlson Wagonlit Travel - Thornhill make your Italian holiday ideas come to life.

After years of traveling through Italy, our team of expert travel agents can pass on our wealth of first hand knowledge to you.  We can customize the experience to your personal taste, which is something that no guidebook, or online website can do for you.  Like a perfectly tailored suit, your holiday will be fit to your exact specifications.

Italy can be explored at your own pace and style

Whether you want hiking or biking in Umbria or Tuscany, or boating on Lake Como we can help get you there.  Bring the kids to any number of Agriturismo farms dotted around the countryside or perhaps indulge in a cooking school and outlet-shopping trip with the girls.  What about a spa getaway?  If you are traveling with extended family, we can help you find the perfect combination of sights, sand and space in a villa on the water.

If great food is what you crave, we can help you find the perfect cappuccino, thinnest pizza or finest gelato.  If what you are looking for is stunning scenery, we can guide you there, from the northern Lakes of Como and Garda to the Amalfi Coast.  If what you seek is great shopping, not only can we put you in the heart of the action, we can also make sure you are there at the prime sale times!

Our agents can advise you the best of each city or area the country of Italy has to offer.  We know the rhythms of the cities, when to snag the discounted rooms in Rome, Florence and Venice and we know when it is the best time to visit for wine harvesting or truffle hunting.  We can also advise you where you should rent a car and even help you plan where to base yourselves when using the train for day trips.  The list is endless of what we can arrange for your specific wants and needs.

Let us arrange your holiday-whether it's your first or tenth time to Italy, there is so much to see and do you'll feel like your visiting a new destination with every visit!

Here are some of our agent's favorite Italian experiences:

Anna:  Unexpectedly coming across a free concert of Andrea Bocelli in Rome.

Connie:  Haggling with vendors at a local street market in Siena.

Marcie:  Finding the almost free gondola ride across the Grand Canal in Venice.

Patricia:  Admiring the ability of the high-heeled Italian women in navigating the cobblestone streets of Positano without falling.

Rhona:  Being at the Prada outlet just outside Florence at sale time.

Rochelle:  Biking along the top of the walls of the ancient city of Lucca.

Ying:  Debating the merits of who has the best pizza in Naples.

If you're a first timer and wanting a taste we recommend Rome, Florence and Venice which are the most popular cities to visit..

Rome's old town is compact which makes this city very walk-able.  You can sightsee from morning till night and still have so much more to see, or you can relax at one of the many espresso cafes and ice-cream shops along the way and watch the world go by.  There is no shortage of culture in Rome and whether you enjoy sightseeing or not, the famous sights of Rome cannot be missed:  The Colosseu, St. Peters's Square and Basilica, the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, Castel Sant' Angelo, Imperial Forums, the Patheon, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Vittorio Emanuele Monument, Piazza del Popolo and the list goes on!  Let the beautiful city of Rome enchant you!

Surrounded by the Arno River the city of Florence is known for its russet rooftops and towering domes.  In the city of Florence you will be overwhelmed with architecture, priceless works of art by Botticelli, Giotto, Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, and of course, magnificent churches not to be missed!  Walking around Florence is recommended as parking is hard to find.  Another great walking city full of nightlife!

Venice is a feast of magnificent churches, lavish palaces and stately bridges, all built upon a maze of waterways and streets that are works of art in themselves.  Stroll across the Rialto Bridge for a view of the Grand Canal and the gondolas.  Spend some time in St. Mark's Square and enjoy St. Mark's Basilica with its Bell Tower in the background.  Venice is best explored on foot and be prepared to get lost as there are many alleys and bridges in the city!
